Subject Files 1956-1981; 1969-1975.

This series comprises material that was generated or received by the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) Board of World Missions (BWM) and was related to mission work in India. The records are from 1956-1981, but the majority date from 1969-1975. Records in this series pertain to programs supported by financial assistance from the BWM or had a governing board on which the LCA had a representative. Most of the material is business correspondence related to BWM involvement in overseas programs and material sent by the agency or program informing the BWM of matters related to a program or project. Other types of records include meeting minutes, annual reports, financial reports, publications, articles and essays for publication, newspaper articles, proceedings from consultations, circular letters, and project proposals. There are some records that were created prior to the existence of the LCA, but were kept in this series for the sake of continuity. Box 3 contains records related to two long-range planning conferences in the Indian churches related to the BWM. These records are primarily correspondence pertaining to the planning of these conferences, and material used by participants in the conferences. Examples of programs represented in this series are Suvartha Vani, a recording studio to which LCA gave financial assistance; the Coordinating Agency for Health Planning/Voluntary Health Association of India to which the BWM provided financial assistance through the Division of Overseas Ministry of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (NCCCUSA); the Allahabad Agricultural Institute, a Christian institute of rural life, of which the LCA was a member of its Board of Founders; and the Christa Seva Vidhyalaya, Missionary Training Center for Women of which the LCA was member of its Board of Management. Files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
